Luis Barragán House-Studio

Home-Studio Luis Barragán, located in the old Tacubaya neighborhood of Mexico City, is truly an architectural gem. Designed by Tapatío architect Luis Barragán in 1948, this residence is a masterful example of emotional architecture and aesthetic sensibility.

The Luis Barragan Home-Studio was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2004, recognizing its cultural importance and contribution to the world's architectural heritage. What really stands out about this house is the way in which Barragán used light, color and proportion to create environments that evoke a wide range of emotions in those who visit it.

Every detail of the Home-Studio Luis Barragán is carefully considered, from the layout of the spaces to the design of the garden and courtyards. The courtyard of pots, with its mirror of water, is just one of many examples of how Barragán integrated natural elements into his design to create a unique and moving experience for visitors.

To visit Home-Studio Luis Barragan is to immerse yourself in the creative world of one of the most influential architects of the 20th century, and to experience firsthand his unique approach to architecture and design. It is a place that not only impresses visually, but also touches the hearts and minds of those who have the privilege of walking through its spaces.

Since 2016, Estancia Femsa coordinates temporary exhibitions of contemporary art in the house. Different artists are invited to make stays and intervene with their pieces in this museum. They have exhibited from artists such as the Brazilian Cildo Meireles to the German Franz Erhard Walther.

Something curious is that the house, despite being a museum, is still inhabited by María, a woman who worked with Luis Barragán and who, according to the architect's instructions, was to live there when he passed away. María leaves little clues of the care she still has for the house, she makes arrangements with the plants from the garden that decorate certain corners such as the foyer, the living room and the dining room.
